Property in The Scottish Borders

Living in The Borders you can have the best of both worlds - the countryside right on your doorstep but city amenities still close at hand.   If you prefer a more rural lifestyle, the choice of activities to choose from is endless. Horse riding, hill walking, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, golf and indoor fun includes cinemas, swimming and curling - it's all there - plus great restaurants/pubs for a good night out.

The area is rich in heritage with Thirlestane Castle in Lauder, Manderston House (with its impressive silver staircase) near Duns, Jedburgh Abbey, Traquair House at Innerleithen and, near Peebles, the beautiful gardens at Kailzie where, at the right time of year, you can view the ospreys nesting, and Dawyck Gardens at Stobo.

Most local towns and burghs have their own common Riding - a week of summer activities when the towns hang out the bunting in their individual colours and hold events for the local communities.  These include the well-known Rugby Sevens, fancy dress parades and the week culminates in a lively 'ride out' to check its borders followed by a ball.

The Borders have always been popular with house hunters thanks to the easily manageable commute to Edinburgh via both the A68 and the A7. Borders property ranges from newly-built estates with four and five-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes to more traditional bungalows, and flats plus rural cottages for those who prefer some seclusion.

The Borders also offer a choice of top quality schools at both primary and secondary levels - some built within the last few years with top of the range equipment, sports, music and IT facilities.
